Story Time: Columbus Express Laundry

Columbus Express Laundry is a full service laundromat, dry cleaning (reluctantly sometimes ha), wash dry fold (drop off), and pickup and delivery laundry service company based in Columbus, Ohio. Their website and CRM is powered by Curbside, a reputable company. Thousands of new customers acquired since We Spend The Money took over their SEO & online marketing, allowing the owners to focus on inbound sales, service, staffing and moving to a much larger facility (good problem to have). This multi-million dollar company is ran by Randy Roberts and Paul Spence. The owners understood this is a collaborative, done with you service, and were gracious with their industry expertise, feedback, and cooperation in providing assets and access to ensure success. Randy provides consulting to other laundry business owners who want to setup processes and scale faster.

“Consistent Pickup and Delivery Growth. We Need to Go to a Night Shift to Keep Up with Demand”

Story Time: LaundryUp

LaundryUp is a pickup and delivery laundry service (spun off from their laundromat), serving the Anaheim, California area. The father Howard has created a 5 star laundromat business and his sons Corey and Patrick and expanding the family business. The client went from having minimal branding to having a very professional, known brand in the area. Their website is hosted and maintained by We Spend The Money. Their CRM is Cents (previously known as Starchup). The client previously struggled with the ability to target self service, wash dry fold, dry cleaning, pickup and delivery all separately. Because We Spend The Money intimately understands the industry we were able to implement a plan of attack to grow this specific part of the business, which is typically the hardest late stage – commercial pickup and delivery clientele. Every month we create new AI and search optimized webpages, and ads to piggy back off the work. This has led to increased website traffic, leads and lifetime customers.

How Do I Grow My Laundry Business?

The best way to ensure success is to take actions the failures in this industry will not do.

Like any industry, the devil is in the details, but the principles remain the same.

Become a brand.

Photos of the exterior, photos of the interior, photos of the team.

Videos of the interior, videos of the team, videos showing the process and customer testimonials

Get Reviews. Have a system in place to get reviews, don’t just hope for the beast.

Business Owners ultimately need to do these 3 things whether they are DIY, or hiring a marketing agency. Our best clients are ones that are willing and able to help grow their business, they simply need more guidance and don’t have the luxury of cloning themselves for another full time job.

Everything below, will be predicated on this as a prerequisite

How Do I Get More Self Service Laundromat Customers?

Is your website completely transparent on your open hours, last wash, and pricing? You should have an equipment webpage which states the brand of washers and dryers, the amount of each, the lb capacity, the pricing and the settings allowed. The more your answer these questions on the website, the less you’ll have random questions or uniformed customers when they come into your laundromat.

Now that your website is actually useful, and not just puffery, you’ll want to drive more people to your laundromat. This means marketing and advertising. The absolutely quickest path to branding and traffic is through videos. You don’t need endless content either. Even just a handful of videos that go on your specific laundromat webpage can completely transform their experience. Now they feel at ease when walking into your laundromat, because mentally they already saw the exterior and interior through your media. Big Tech and the world is pay to play. That’s where We Spend The Money comes in. Rather than rely on a handful of ads and being milked by a traditional agency for a fee, you’ll want to completely blanket all your zip codes, neighborhoods and towns. The industry average is about 20 minutes driving distance from your laundromat. We do this by referencing zip code maps, AI and cross check it manually inside Google Maps. This is a very time consuming process but it’s important to have an exhaustive list of all the areas you do (and don’t) want to reach.

English is a given, but many laundromats serve Spanish communities and other ethnicities. We’ve seen laundromats get stuffed with Spanish speaking clients after working with us (we have team members that speak multiple languages), which helps with content creation, ad copy and targeting. On average, we are seeing Spanish speaking customers cost 1/3 to 1/2 the cost of English ones, and we know they are rock solid people who are respectful and loyal.

Create content for each zip code, neighborhood and town within this 20 minute area. This should be both organic and paid channels. The ones we see the most success on are:

Google

Microsoft (Bing, Yahoo, Duckduckgo)

Meta (Facebook, Instagram)

Youtube

This is the least discerning customer, and lowest value on the tier. They are therefore less sensitive to 1 star reviews, and weaker branding. This doesn’t mean they are immune to it. It simply is the first to grow typically on your journey. Some of the most common types of keywords are:

laundromat near me

lavanderรญa cerca de mรญ

Be careful you don’t conflate these keywords with pickup and delivery, wash dry fold, commercial laundry, dry cleaning, or worse, your competitors, paying retail per click. Each service needs to have its own service areas, organic and paid strategy.

How Do I Get More Wash Dry Fold (Drop Off) Laundry Customers?

Wash Dry Fold and Self Service tend to be the same driving distance limit as self service, a 20 minute one way drive. Here you will want to target English speakers (although we are seeing a slight rise in other languages using this service). This is a more discerning customer. They want to see images of the folding tables, the team in uniforms diligently folding. They want to know the types of detergents you use, the washers you use, why they are superior, along with your drying and stain removal process. If you have neglected your written reviews, photos, and videos, you can grow this, but it’s a complete uphill battle.

You can waste your budget not blocking out self service keywords (we block out no less than 10,000 keywords for each client). The “algorithm” conveniently lumps self service, dry cleaning, Spanish keywords, Chinese keywords, starting a laundromat, and all kinds of erroneous nonsense with wash dry fold customers. If you don’t offer a pickup and delivery (PUD) service, I would also avoid the most popular phrase – laundry service near me, because they might want pickup and delivery, and now you just wasted a few dollars.

Keep it tight with drop off and wash dry fold related phrases. Again, it’s more about blocking it out daily and knowing what to block then knowing what to bid on.

How Do I Get More Pickup and Delivery Laundry Service Clients?

Noticed we used the word “clients” here and not customers. This is because they are the most demanding clients. This means you better not have a bad reputation, or at least working towards improving it. Each 1 star is examined and scrutinized. Your photos need to make a statement very clean – you are here, you care, and you are the real deal. Stock photos or a handful of random photos is not going to get the job done. People love video. As I’m writing this I have a video playing on another monitor. Even with a deep appreciation of the written-word, myself and others are gravitating towards video because it’s convenient, fast and extremely efficient at conveying a message. If you follow your driver around for the day (maybe you are the driver!), simply take out your phone, narrate you are dropping off an order at “X” town or neighborhood and show you getting out of the van, confirming the laundry and delivering to the door step. Just be aware of not showing peoples addresses. You can do this for commercial clients of course. Now that you overwhelmed them with positive reviews, photos and videos, you need to get in front of more people.

Laundry Service near me is one of the best. Pickup and delivery phrases are solid. If you want to only focus on this, we recommend blocking out anything related to self service, wash dry fold, dry cleaning in this organic and paid approach. You will waste a good chunk of your budget if you don’t proactively monitor your ads account daily.

Why Does We Spend The Money Create Thousands of Ads for my Laundromat/Laundry Business?

The name algorithm implies that it’s just a game. If you have 1000 chances to win vs 1, even if you are the greatest ad copy creator in the world, you will still lose due to volume. The algorithm loves diversity and testing. Many agencies (even ones that focus on Laundromats) know the path, but they simply can’t create 2000 ads in YOUR ad account, because what if you cancel? The business model is broken. That’s why we set out to disrupt the industry and have an honest conversation. You’ll own the website, webpages, AI and search engine optimizations, but not the ad account, because we don’t have the luxury of building 5-15 new ads a month, and waiting 10 years to dominate. We want to dominate right away, and the only way to do that is through extremely siloed strategies combined with excessive volume. You have a decision to make. Are you in the digital asset accumulation business, or the laundry business? If you only care about “owning” your ad account, you should do a thought experiment about owning your domain. If you stop paying your domain registrar, see what happens (spoiler, you lose it). With We Spend The Money, we take all of our learning across each client, and cross block fraud bots, competitor clicks, and most importantly, all the under performing keywords in month 1. We aren’t vampires. It would take your agency literally years to get to where we are at within the first month. Even at 20 new ads each month, it would take 5 years to get over 1000 ads. 1 month vs 5 years. What do you really own, other than a liability and e-trash once your agency churns and burns you within the next 6-18 months.

Do You Have a Laundromat Client in My Area Already?

Possibly. We are growing through referrals (imagine doing great work and receiving recommendations!), and our own advertising. We aren’t as good as other agencies (yet) at getting new clients. They are great at churn and burn. We nurture our clients and show great care by spending the money properly and getting fantastic results; our retention rate is much higher than industry averages. This is because we get results, and We Spend The Money; whether a client is with us 1 month or 11 years, we will always spend the money, and focus on top line revenue, not busy work and fake metrics.

Because we prefer to take on ONE laundromat per area, we will respectfully let you know if we can’t work together.

How is My Budget and Pricing Determined?

It’s predetermined by your service area. Because we prefer to work with only ONE client per location, a minimum spend is set based on the population size. Small area, small budget, big area, big budget. Not only are clients voluntarily spending more (because we literally spend more as they spend more), but we need the minimums to ensure we partner with someone who is serious, sincere and wanting to grow their business, not play pretend online.
