Pay to Play
“Pay to Play” is not Pay to Win. Buy a lottery ticket if you think this is still 1999. I wish we (the agency) could get paid, and get a result, without any help from you, the business owner, but that’s not possible any longer. The internet has matured and your competition is playing this game right now. Big Tech has matured. Big Tech must be paid. SEO is not what it used to be, and it’s never going back.
A Trip Down SEO memory lane…
It’s 2007. Your Mom is carrying a tray of fresh baked cookies down to the basement and you just ranked on page 1 for the term “Online Gaming”. Your website was barely functional but you brute forced your way using “backlinks” and “tricks”. You know the offshore VA tasks better than they do. You’ve spent thousands of hours learning, testing, and refining.
Twenty years later, I’ve unknowingly arrived at the same place I once started. It’s always been a game. The internet isn’t real, money isn’t real, and it’s those SEO and marketing agencies with the bravery, imagination and arrogance to perform which get the results.
Artificial Intelligence (LLMs) Has Closed Doors and Opened Others…
500,000 page websites in a few clicks. It’s getting wild. Search Engine Engineers aren’t going to sit idly by and watch the algorithm get gamed. The loop hole of cheap, free traffic is being closed. Traffic is the ultimate validator, so why not just do PPC? Pay Per Click used to be a dirty phrase, because everything had to be free when you’re living at home. Fast forward, it needs to be a part of every strategy (not just one or two sources either). After millions spent in paid ads, we discovered a way to not only get value immediately, but also the long-term benefit of increased rankings through traffic validation. Funny enough, PPC done the traditional way can have the opposite negative effect on your ranking signals.
Google Was Right All Along
As a young adult, I mistook search engines as a foe, the gatekeeper of the game. Now, as an adult I understand this was misguided. Search engines need to deliver the best result, both in terms of relevance and experience. The world is pay to play, and we must align ourselves with search engines to get a result – the best result for the end user, which is always us, right?
Flat Rate Pricing, Transparent Value, Results
We Spend The Money was birthed out of necessity. Too many business owners were receiving black boxes of busy work to pad invoice hours and confuse clients into retention. Rather than appear busy, let’s just do what needs to be done to win. Best of all, the reporting shows exactly where the money went each month, and the results.
